First plant of the year in my home garden is...

By Jaya Pandey on Feb 7, 2014

A Celery. A coincidental experiment. I had this celery sitting in my fridge and I was eating it out to its center when this experiment came to my mind {I know I can be a scientist}. I thought let us not throw away the stub left in the end. Let us put it in a glass half filled with water and see what happens. I did not eat the innermost two celery sticks. They were intact on the stub when I began this experiment.

I kept the glass on my kitchen counter, where sun light comes in the morning for about an hour. In two days, the pale green or should I say the palest green {almost yellow} inner celery sticks turned more green and I saw a hint of two long roots. I let it be in water for two more days and today I shifted it into a pot. Let us see how it will turns out to be. For now, it is doing good. It is still cold outside so I keep it inside. It is pulling double duty of being an edible plant and a decorative plants. Wish some luck to it.
